George Fox Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon, part of the Seminary Stewardship Alliance, has added a 12-credit concentration focusing on Christian Earthkeeping. Courses include “Theology & Ethics of the Land”, “Theology and Stewardship of Creation”, “Eschatology, New Creation & Communal Ethics”, and “Poverty and Restorative Earthkeeping.” The program fosters community learning and utilizes two year-long seminars and summer immersion intensives.
The seminary includes a list of five reasons for beginning the concentration:
“1. The Earth is endangered.
2. The evangelical Church has been silent.
3. The Bible speaks to our relationship with the Created Order.
4. The Church must respond to God’s command to
“keep” the Earth (Gen 2:15)
5. Christian leaders need a theological
and biblical basis for Earthkeeping.”
