A.J. Swoboda, PHD – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

AJ black and white squareDr. A. J. Swoboda is a professor, author, and pastor of Theophilus in urban Portland, Oregon. He teaches theology, biblical studies, and Christian history at George Fox Evangelical and Fuller Seminaries, including a number of other universities and Bible colleges. As well, he is the founder and director of Blessed Earth Northwest, a center that helps think creatively and strategically around creation care issues in the Pacific Northwest. Alongside this work, he serves as the national director of the Seminary Stewardship Alliance—a consortium of Christian higher-ed schools that are thinking strategically about Christian training in creation care. Previous to this, A.J. served as a campus pastor at the University of Oregon. His doctoral research at the University of Birmingham (U.K.) explored the never-ending relationship between the Holy Spirit and ecology. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion and the Society for Pentecostal Studies. A.J. is the author of The Dusty Ones (Baker), Tongues and Trees: Toward a Pentecostal Ecological Theology (JPTSup, Deo), and Introducing Evangelical Ecotheology (Baker Academic). MATTHEW SLEETH, MD – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Emeritus

A former emergency room physician, Dr. Matthew Sleeth resigned from his position as chief of the medical staff and director of the ER to teach, preach, and write about faith and the environment. Since founding Blessed Earth and the SSA, he has spoken at 1,000 churches and schools throughout the country. Dr. Sleeth is a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine and has two postdoctoral fellowships. He is the author of Serving God, Saving the Planet: A Christian Call to Action, the introduction to The Green Bible , and 24/6: A Prescription for a Healthier, Happier Life.  Contact Matthew!

 

MADALYN SALZ – Executive administrator

She attended Vanguard University of Southern California in Orange County where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing. After graduating, Madalyn spent two years in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a Presbyterian church where she served in several ministry capacities, including leading youth and student ministries. While in the United Kingdom, she earned a Graduate Diploma in Theology from Queen’s University Belfast. Now, back in Oregon, she serves as the administrator for the Seminary Stewardship Alliance and Blessed Earth Northwest. Madalyn is active in her church community and leads a small group of high school students. In her free time, she enjoys learning guitar, going to concerts, and having bonfires.  Contact Madalyn!
