Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary began as two separate institutions: Gordon College of Theology & Mission and Temple University. They united to become Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1969. Their current president is Dr. Dennis Hollinger. Gordon-Conwell joined the SSA in 2012, as a founding partner school.
Mission Statement: Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary is an educational institution serving the Lord and His Church. Its mission is to prepare men and women for ministry at home and abroad. The seminary undertakes this task as a training partner with the Church so that what is learned on campus may be complemented by the spiritual nurture and the exercise of ministry available through the Church. Gordon-Conwell’s mission arises out of God’s redemptive work in this world effected in Jesus Christ, understood through the biblical Word and mediated by the Holy Spirit. As a theological seminary, it provides learning, resources and training through which men and women may acquire knowledge, gain skills and develop attitudes needed in Christ’s ministry.
“Part of being a leader is leading people, and hopefully as many people as possible will come along. We’ve made a commitment, for example, to solar energy on our campus. We’ll be installing it in the next few weeks. That’s a symbolic thing that begins to flow down throughout the entire campus- faculty, staff, all of the administration, and then down to the students as well. It sends a rich message…You do what you feel is the right thing to do, and when you make that kind of a commitment I think it does flow into all the nooks and crannies of the institution.” – Dr. Dennis Hollinger, President, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
